Thank you for your interest in our organization!! HFWGA is
always in need of animal-loving volunteers!
How You Can Help:
1. Temporarily foster a pet until it is ready for its adoptive home. Fostering
involves providing care and love until we are able to find a permanent, adoptive home. We provide all veterinary
care. See below for more info on fostering.
2. Donate
pet food, treats, cat litter, bowls, beds, collars, leashes, crates, carriers. We can use anything pet-related!
3. Spread the word about our organization! If you know of
someone looking for a new pet, encourage them to adopt instead of buying from a breeder or petstore. If they do
not find what they are looking for with HFWGA Petfinder.com has many more pets in need!!
4. Volunteer your services. We are always in need of groomers,
veterinarians, transportation, etc.
5. Help out at an adoption event! We hope to be holding adoptions regularly at Petsmart
in Douglasville, Ga by mid-June 2007. Volunteers will be needed to assist with this process.
6. Make a donation or sponsor a pet! Sponsoring
a pet provides the much needed funds that allow HFWGA to rescue needy pets and have them examined and treated by a veterinarian.
Sometimes we have a rescue that needs special treatment for injuries or health conditions, but mostly we need funding for
routine veterinary services such as spaying/neutering, vaccinations, fecal checks, deworming, heartworm testing, feline leukemia/AIDS
testing, heartworm preventative, flea/tick products, and medications. 100% of your donation goes towards our efforts.
Contributions can be made online
via Paypal by clicking the "Donate" icon below or by mailing it directly to one of our participating veterinary
clinics . Please contact us for our veterinarians' mailing addresses.

Fostering is one of the most rewarding
aspects of volunteering.
The more foster homes we have, the more homeless
pets we can help!!!
FAQs - Fostering:
1. What is fostering?
HFWGA will remove an animal from a local shelter and as a foster you
will keep it in your home until it is adopted. The animal is vetted at the expense of HFWGA. The only thing you provide
is a safe, loving environment until the pet is adopted. Anything you can provide in the way of food, collars, transportation,
training, etc. is greatly appreciated but not required.
By Department of Agriculture regulations a home visit by a HFWGA representative
is required. We will visit your home, ask you a few standard questions, discuss procedures, address
any questions/concerns, and have you sign a foster home agreement.
2. How long will the foster pet be in my home?
That question is dependant upon many factors. Usually it is approximately
2 weeks assuming the pet is healthy and of age to be spayed/neutered. All animals pulled will be temperment tested and we
do our best to ensure an animal's adoptability prior to coming into our program. However due to unforseen circumstances
fostering can sometimes be long term.
3. What if I want to adopt my foster?
This will happen from time to time. It is discouraged because it takes a
place from other homeless animals but sometimes you just can't part with a foster. An application would be completed as with
all adoptions and upon approval, appropriate fees would apply to reimburse HFWGA for expenses incurred for
the pet.
Ok I think fostering is perfect for me!! What
is the next step?
